Do not forget to use plenty of sun screen in the heat and to drink plenty of water. Remember heat and alcohol do not mix. Again, water is the best to quench your thirst and to hydrate. Stay in the shade when possible and remember that you can still get sunburned when it is cloudy outside. The bad rays still come through strong when it is cloudy. Stay cool in the water!

Hunting Safety

I just got back from a hunting trip. No one got hurt! I just want to say that if all involved in a hunt are conscientious and aware that you must keep safety in perspective, there should be a substantial decrease in accidents. Never think that a gun is not loaded and always check it before use to insure that it is safe. When you are finished using a weapon, make sure it is safe and away from any child or non responsible adult. Then put the weapon in a safe place where easy access is not available and preferably in a gun safe. The next time the weapon is used, check again to verify that it is not loaded. Remember that a gun never hurts anyone when it is unloaded. Accidents happen when care is omitted. Be safe.

Safety Tips While Hunting

To be safe while hunting it is recommended that you case out or scout the area where you plan to go looking for game. This will allow you to find out what type of clothing you should wear, how much water and food you should carry and how hard it will be to move around. Believe it when we tell you this concerns health and is a valid safety tip. We personally just gt back from such a trip and found out that the difference in altitude made a huge impact in the way you can hike and the distance you can cover. Also when hunting be aware of your surroundings and know how many hunters are expected in the area of your hunt. Just be careful in the direction that you shoot and know what is behind the animal you are trying to harvest. Be smart and take a first-aid kit with you and hope that you do not have to use it. If you can, take a GPS unit with you and this will make all the difference in the world to you as it give you a way to find help if necessary and keeps you from getting lost if you use it correctly. That is huge!

Safety Matters! Hiking and safety tips.

Hiking is great exercise and many people who are not experience hikers may want to read what is contained in this safety tip. New hikers tend not to purchase and break in new hiking shoes. This results in hot spots which many times turn into blisters. Blisters simply make hiking miserable. Tip: Buy good quality hiking shoes and break them in properly. Wear them when going on your walk in the neighborhood. Mow the lawn with them on. Start off by going on shorter hikes. When they feel comfortable, start to increase the distance each time you go hiking. Good hiking boots should not take long to break in properly. It should only take a couple of walks to get them ready so you can begin to hike wearing your new boots.

The second tip is simply to always take water with you when you hike. Gauge the distance and time you will be on the trail and take an appropriate amount of water with you. Do not substitute canned soda, beer or coke when you are hiking. This is harmful to you and could cause you to loose your ability to breathe correctly or lose your balance while trying to move down the trail. Water is the best.

With the events happening that involve gun safety, let me say this about the storage of a gun. People who own guns already know how important it is to make sure your guns are safe. The best way is to keep them safe is to store them in a gun safe or locked gun cabinet. If you do not have a gun safe put the weapons our of reach of younger children and lock them with a trigger lock. May I suggest that you also teach your children about gun safety when they are little. Start when they become curious and teach them that it is not okay to play with guns and that they should not even pick one up unless they are with an adult and the adult has rendered it safe. Please take the time and teach your children that weapons of all kinds should be considered loaded and dangerous at all times and that it is not proper to ever pull the trigger when looking at a gun. They must be taught proper gun safety by a knowledgeable parent or adult. Unfortunately, too many kids are shot by “unloaded guns”.

We were recently traveling to Hawaii and I saw two different methods parents transported their toddlers. One set of parents took a risk and let their child just sit in a seat by themselves or they just held the little one. Another set of parents were more cautious and actually took a car seat and buckled their child inside during the flight. I much prefer the second method . I prefer the second method because you protect the child in case the flight runs into choppy weather. Sometimes choppy weather make the plane bounce so much that some people who refuse to use their seatbelts actually are thrown to the ceiling and crack their heads and damage their skulls or hurt the vertebrae in their necks. This can cause person to be seriously hurt and cause extreme problems such as paralysis. Do not take the chance to get hurt or allow your children to suffer such damage. Another tip that is really not a safety matter. Always carry some chewing gum or candy with you to give to your child when taking off or landing. The air pressure changes and causes their little ears to pop and hurt. Chewing on something helps and stops them from crying because of the pressure change. Please be safe!

Please never let your children go trick or treating by themselves even if they go with older children. They are too precious to loose to some freak accident or incident. For sure, do not let them carry anything that is incindiary in nature. Pumpkins with candles do not belong on a trick or treat excursion. No fieworks! I personally have an aunt who was burned severely because someone threw a firecracker and the blast caught her dress on fire and she got the burns. She kept that trick on her neck and face for the rest of her life. So, please be safe and protect the children. Thanks.

Safety Tip of Week!

Always have a sharp knife or the equivalent in your car for a good reason. Some times when people are engaged in an accident, the seat belt buckle will not release. It may be necessary to cut the belt so you can escape from the car if it becomes an emergency situation. This exact problem has occurred on many occasions during automobile accidents.
